The Equine Veterinarian’s job is neither to pass or fail an animal. Rather, it is to provide you with information regarding any existing medical problems, and to discuss those problems with you so that you can make an informed purchase decision.
This is accomplished through a thorough physical exam as well as an extensive gait evaluation involving limb palpation, flexion tests and hoof testers. The horse is also assessed for lameness or asymmetry on hard and soft ground. Ancillary testing (eg. Digital radiography, bloodwork, drug screens, reproductive examination etc.) is offered in addition to the basic pre-purchase examination.
Eden & Plaxton Equine Veterinarian Services is an invaluable partner in the process of the pre-purchase examination. Dr. Eden and Dr. Plaxton will provide you with objective, health-related information regarding your potential new horse.
